In just two seasons, this incredible group of scholar-athletes along with their committed coaches and families have made their mark with a season full of thrilling victories, standout performances and incredible growth on and off the court.

While we celebrate these accomplishments with pride, the team knows the journey is far from over. As we often say:

‘Beyond mountains, there are mountains’.  At its core, this proverb suggests that: When you overcome one challenge, another one often lies ahead.

But it’s not meant to be discouraging — rather, it’s a reminder of the ongoing nature of effort, learning, and growth. Whether in sports, personal and community development, leadership, or life, we never truly “arrive.” Every peak we reach (or challenge we overcome) reveals new learning, new perspectives and new opportunities to grow.

Our players understand that they are not just athletes — they are integrative leaders who understand that success is about more than just winning games. Each player remains focused, humble and committed to learning toward the betterment of self, others, and the world.

2025-2026 Season Rumi Rep Team Tryout Announcement Boys U13 & U15

We are excited to start our 2025-2026 Rumi Academy season with tryouts for our U13 and U15 teams taking place during the following dates:

Important Note: During the 2025-2026 Season, the Rumi Basketball Academy is fielding only two competitive rep teams – a boys U13 team (born in 2013 & 2014) and boys U15 team (2011 & 2012).

Rumi Academy Boys U15 Rep Basketball Team Try-Out Dates & Location:

Rumi Academy is hosting tryouts for their boys U13 (born in 2013 & 2014) and U15 team (born 2011or 2012) during the following dates and location:

• Sunday August 24th 9:30am-12:00pm – Brooklin Community Centre (8 Vipond Rd. Whitby)
• Monday August 25th 5:15pm-pm-7:15pm – Brooklin Community Centre (8 Vipond Rd. Whitby)
• Thursday September 11th 27th 6:00pm-8:00pm – Father J. Leo Austin High School (1020 Dryden Blvd, Whitby, ON L1R 2A2)

Important Note

• Maximum 60 players per tryout
• $25 with pre-registration
• $30 walk-in (space allowing)

We highly recommend registering before tryout dates, as walk-ins will be turned away if the gym capacity is full.

Rumi Basketball University – High-Performance Camp Overview

This high-performance basketball camp is led by pro and college experienced coaches who will support and challenge athletes to develop their growth mindset, basketball IQ and advanced skill development.

During a purposeful and intense 5 day schedule, players will learn:

• Advanced shooting & footwork
• Dominating on defence
• Fundamentals of post offense & defence
• Playing without the ball
• Setting goals, measuring progress & practising with a PDIFF mindset
• Developing an explosive step & finishing in the paint
• Studying film & evaluating NBA/NCAA/CIS games like a coach
• Developing confidence & improving athletic performance
• 5 on 5 game play with officials & statistics

Rumi Basketball Academy – High Performance Rep Basketball League & HP Training

This league is designed for ages 11-13 & 14-17 competitive rep athletes wishing to develop a 5G mindset (grind, grit, growth, greatness & glory) on and off the court!

Over a 8-week period, our highly experienced coaches will support and challenge athletes to develop an obsessive work ethic toward basketball and athletic development.

Players will learn how to embrace challenge and discomfort, all while developing into high performing players who can impact and contribute to their rep teams.

During our 9 week training & league sessions, players will receive a combination of basketball training and tactical game play in collaborative and competitive playing environment.

Ages: 11 – 13 (6:00pm-7:00pm)

Players must have advanced playing experience within a rep basketball league program. This program is not suitable for beginners or intermediate players (we recommend our 360btg.com partner league for beginner and intermediate players).

Rumi Basketball Academy – High Performance Rep & Pre-Rep Winter Training Program

This program is designed for ages 11-17 competitive rep and pre-rep athletes wishing to develop a 5G mindset (grind, grit, growth, greatness & glory) on and off the court.

Over a 8-week period (or 16 hours training), our highly experienced coaches will support and challenge athletes to develop an obsessive work ethic toward basketball and athletic development.

Players will learn how to embrace challenge and discomfort, all while developing a purposeful, intensive and extensive self-led practice routine to better prepare and perform at the competitive levels.

During our 8 week training session, players between the ages of 11-17 will learn:

• Advanced shooting & footwork
• Dominating on offense & defence
• Fundamentals of playing & defending the post
• Playing without the ball
• Setting goals, measuring progress & practising with a PDIFF mindset
• Developing an explosive 1st step, penetrating the paint & finishing at the rim
• Studying film & watching basketball games like a coach
• Developing confidence & improving athletic performance
• 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 & 5 on 5 tactical game play

The Rumi Basketball Academy is a new competitive rep basketball club in the Durham Region offering distinguished high-performance basketball training, athlete/team development and leadership enrichment.

As a new high-performance rep and pre-rep basketball program, we are thrilled to announce our new partnership with 360btg leagues, camps and leadership programming (www.360btg.com).  360btg has been delivering innovative and efficacious youth sport, leadership, coaching/teaching development and educational enrichment programs in Durham Region and beyond for more than 20 years.

This collaboration between 360btg and Rumi is inspired by our shared values and philosophies in which highly qualified and caring coaches effectively employ evidence informed research along with Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) framework to design and deliver transformative youth sport and life learning experiences.

The Rumi program is led by highly qualified professional educators and coaches who are committed to helping their athletes and teams thrive and compete with a mindset of joy, challenge, collaboration and transformation – on and off the court!

This partnership marks a significant opportunity for young athletes in the Durham community to experience a unique, holistic and distinguished rep and pre-rep basketball programming and high-performance training, all while incorporating leadership enrichment.
